Campaign
MISIA started engaging in social actions since 2001 motivated by the 9-11 World Trade Centre attack. In 2005, she appeared in the clicking film that was produced by 'Hottokenai Sekai no Mazushisa (Don't Let Be – World Poverty)' campaign, which was part of 'the Global Call Action Against Poverty (GCAP)' launched in 2005 in the UK. The film intended to raise public awareness about the situation of poor children in the world by introducing the fact that 1 child die in every 3 seconds because of poverty. The campaign succeeded in giving huge impression onto the general public of Japan. In December 2005, she also took part in the 'White Band Fes' held at Saitama Super Arena with other artists such as GLAY and Kazufumi Miyazawa. In 2007, MISIA visited Kibera Slum in Nairobi, Kenya, one of the biggest slums in the world.
Bringing these experiences together, MISIA held a charity live concert 'Africa Benefit Live Yokohama' on 26th, 27th May 2008 in Yokohama Blitz. The purpose of the concert was to raise awareness on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) whose target is to realize poverty reduction, improvement of sanitation, peace, human rights, gender equality and environmental sustainability.
